The big reveal

I am not good at keeping FUN secrets. And, honestly, my will has been defeated with this one.

(Plus, my 'friend' in the post has unfriended me on Facebook, which is my main feed for this blog... something about me calling mountain biking *gay*... blah, blah, blah...)

We have a friend who is somewhat intriqued by Bigfoot, of the Sasquatch variety. This friend also happens to live along a wooded area, and in an effort to figure out where the local coyote den is in his neighborhood, he installed a motion sensor camera in his woods.

One day, last spring, while viewing the camera's pictures of the tree-climbing groundhogs, deer and coyotes, our friend's wife and I talked about how it would be funny to go back in the woods to get caught on camera, doing something. And then... then... the idea of Bigfoot caught on camera came about.

I blame it on the excitement of the fresh air and sunshine in the spring... I decided to shoot out an APB to our neighborhood to see if anyone could lend an adult gorilla costume. Don't you know it, there are actually people in my neighborhood who do, in fact, keep a gorilla costume handy!

Enter our friend, Doug. Doug is tall. Very tall. Too tall, in fact, to fit into the gorilla costume. But, he is the perfect cohort in crime.

Thankfully, there was a day that fateful spring, when our friend, with the Sasquatch fetish, was going to be out of town, so we seized the opportunity. With the help of his wife, we knew the whereabouts of that camera and all of the specifications (what triggered it, for how long, and the optimal distance from the camera).

We met in a parking lot near the woods, and ignored the eyes watching two grown men and a woman with cameras and a gorilla costume enter into the woods.

I seriously thought at some point I would pee my pants.  We knew we could pull this off.

Doug even captured it all on video. Click here to view.

And, what you have all been waiting for... the actual sighting from the motion-sensor camera! It truly could not have been any better!

Here we are, 6 months later. I have kept this from our friend for 6 months. That is, like, a RECORD!

My apologies to those of you that are big Stowfoot fans (we live in Stow, OH... get it?), now that you know our little secret. Oh, it was fun... and if we had the energy and coordination to pull it off a second time, we would have.

But, you should remain comfortable and confident in your belief of this furry creature that roams your neighborhood...

  1. Click on the Stowfoot link above for more reveal photos and videos. I remember saying to Matt, "This is either the funniest things we've ever done or the stupidest thing." Since no one went to jail, I'm going with funniest.

  2. Shocking. Lies, lies, lies. I had no idea that the deception went to this extent. I'm glad you can all sleep at night again now that this is out in the open.

How depressing though. I still want to believe.

BTW- the facebook circle of trust has no room for those intolerant of manly men racing mountain bikes in spandex.
