Team Holly

Last Friday, I got a text from my brother telling me that Holly, my best friend from high school, was diagnosed with colon cancer and they thought it had spread to her liver. {Yes, the news came in a text message because that is the way my brother rolls.} My heart stopped.

Holly is married to my brother's best friend, Steve. She is 38 years old with three beautiful children.

The game plan for Holly won't be known until sometime next week, but she is amazing... she is like BRING IT. Per Holly, "Life is good no matter what..." She is committed to kicking cancer's ass. TEAM HOLLY!

That is the way she has always been. She always wears a smile. She always sees the best in a situation and in other people. In high school, Holly was always that "go to girl". Whatever you needed, you could trust Holly to provide it for you - a smile, a hug, a laugh, a shopping companion, a shoulder to cry on, a drinking buddy, a smoking partner (Virginia Slim Menthol Ultralights, baby!)...

Here is a picture of "us" at a high school prom... hahaha... Holly is on the left in blue and I am on the right in the pink. Damn, we look hawt. I think we had to rent a limo this year because our hair wouldn't fit in a sedan.

There have only been a handful of moments in my life that have made me take such pause to evaluate what the hell it is I am doing in life... how am I spending my time... how am I treating others... what kind of steward am I being with our money... ugh... my evaluation so far doesn't have me feeling great... so much to figure out and work on...

In the meantime, please pray with me for Holly, Steve and their family. They have a long winding road ahead, but if anyone can navigate its turns, it is Holly.

  1. Well said Babe.

Don't forget designated driver - Holly was always willing to play chauffeur when needed.

I'm also rooting -- and praying -- for Team Holly to kick Cancer's ass. If anyone can do it, it's Holly.
